Week 9

Wow, there is a lot to understand in week 9. I have looked at podcasts and subscribes to Librarian Live. I had seen the link on the CTLS website but had never click on it. Wish I had done so earlier. There is some very useful information on it. I wonder if we could podcast Story Time? We have a link to LibriVox on our website. When we were getting our patrons ready to use NetLibrary E-audio books I put it on so they could get used to downloading books. There are some great titles on the site, I am downloading Swiss Family Robinson.

Facebook | Dian Ray

Facebook Dian Ray

I explored You Tube and have looked at some library videos. One of the future projects at our library is the making of video and Animoto presentations. We were planning on viewing the inauguration using a site on You Tube but we were part of the Verizon outage that day.

For week 8 I signed up for an account in ZOHO. I uploaded a photo and then posted it on this blog. I really like ZOHO. I will be telling my patrons about it. I then looked at the award winning Social Networks. The one I choose to look at was genealogy. I put my grandfathers name in and came up with 6 hits. I think this site will be one that we include in our del.ic ious account.

trip

My husband has a new camera, so this afternoon we took a trip along the river.  We came upon some longhorns and a donkey.  I had been trying to get a picture of a longhorn for some time so he stopped so I could get this picture.  The donkey must have been lonely because he came up to the car and tried to stick his head in the window.  He tried this several times.  I didn't get the donkey's picture, but I did get a good shot of the longhorn.

Favorite Things Wiki

Wow, I knew what Wikis were but the way they are being used is great. I can 't wait to get together with staff members and create a useful Wiki for our library.

The key to Learning 2.0 or social networking seems to be adding tags to your blog that other people search for. With 5,671 results for Learning 2.0 on Tecnorati its easy to see that this is a popular pasttime, and as the New Zealand Digital Strategy2.0 indicates, passing on the knowledge is our aim.
Hi, I just went through Delicious and looked at Kam's site. I can see that this would be a good tool to use to create lists for genealogy, law, homework help even book selection sites. I did make an account and will explore its options.

So far of the 23 Things, I have liked the RSS feeds and the games the least. I do play solitaire at home and I tried Bookworm Adventures and made it through the first game but that is not the way I want to spend my free time. I will be making a page in Facebook.

Google features

I think the feature I am going to like the best is google documents. I can already see that if we can show this to our patrons and get them to use it, that it will save us time and money. It will allow our patrons to compose and save their document to Google's file server. This allows our patrons to access it anywhere they are.

Seven and 1/2 Habits

I believe the habit I will have to hardest time with is remembering that a challenge is a positive. That it is an opportunity to grow and learn.

Thanksgiving

The Llano Library will be closed for Thanksgiving : Nov. 25-30. We will reopen on Dec. 1 at our normal time. Please have a safe and happy holiday.
